Learning outcomes: Knowledge: -Student define the basic hematological terms -Explain and describe mechanisms of functional alterations in the body in basic hematological illnesses proceeding -Explain and describe causes of basic hematological illnesses -Recognize relationships between haematology and other medical sciences Practical skills: -Select and perform diagnostic haematological tests -Collect and protect blood samples, bone marrow and blood derivatives. -Prepare samples for transport, tests. -Perform basic haematological tests with laboratory equipment -Interpret laboratory test results

Competences: -Regards highly permanently broadening medical knowledge and skills -Is responsible for safe using of laboratory equipment

Prerequisites: Completion of the courses in histology, biophysics, chemistry, biochemistry, cell biology, physiology, microbiology and immunology.

Course content: Contents: The student is familiarized with:  haematological terms; haemopoiesis, the role of blood cells and plasma,  morphological and functional disturbances of blood in different type of diseases,  processes of haemostasis and its role in prevention of the body against blood and body fluid loss, healing,  differences in a range of morphology and function of blood depending on different species,  transplant and transfusion problems.
