Learning outcomes: As a result of the course the students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of mechanisms, diagnostics, clinical features, management and treatment of primary and secondary immunodeficiency. Students will be able to explain the mechanisms underlying development of autoimmune diseases, their classification and diagnostics. They know clinical features and are able to perform diagnosis of immune mediated diseases of: blood, skin, joints and muscles, gastrointestinal tract, endocrine system, chest and eye . They will demonstrate the knowledge of tumor immunosurveillance and the principles of cancer immunotherapy, the immunological mechanisms involved in implantation process, maintenance of pregnancy and ethiopathology of immune mediated reproductive disorders. They will demonstrate the knowledge on the principles of pharmacological immune-suppression, immune-modulation and laboratory tests used in diagnosis of immune- mediated diseases.

Competences: After completing the course student should be able to: perform client interview, clinical examination of patient and ordered appropriate laboratory tests in case of suspicion immune mediated disease, perform differential diagnosis of immune mediated diseases, design the treatment protocol and management of diagnosed immune-mediated disease.

Prerequisites: Immunology, Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Diagnostics.

Course content: Specific features of the immunological response of animals (species differences), laboratory tests used in diagnosis of immunological diseases, immunological mechanisms of hypersensitivity reactions, immunological mechanisms of autoimmunity, immunotherapy, immunomodulation, experimental therapy, primary and secondary immunodeficiency, immune-mediated skin disease [allergy, pemphigus vulgaris, pemphigus foliaceus, cutaneous lupus erythematosus], immune-mediated heamatological disorders [autoimmune haemolytic anemia, cyclic neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, Immune-mediated alimentary diseases, [ inflammatory bowel disease, IgA deficiency, allergy], immune-mediated muscosceletal and neurological diseases, [rheumatoid arthritis, myasthenia gravis, polineuritis, encephalomyelitis], immune-mediated ocular diseases, Immune-mediated endocrine disease [diabetes mellitus, thyreoiditis, hypoadrenocorticism], multisystem immune – mediated diseases [systemic lupus erythematosus, immune-complex diseases, serum disease], Immune – mediated reproductive disorders, Immune – mediated reproductive disorders, tumor immunology.
