Learning outcomes: After completing the course student should possess the basic and up-to-date knowledge in the range of animal production. The course includes significant and modern achievements in the field of conditions concerning technological aspects of breeding and determination of competences resulting from that knowledge. They concern maintenance and breeding methods and welfare rules, utilization with respect to: proper type selection, kind and parameters of the farm, feed base and nutrition systems, suitable breed selection, maintenance system and welfare, production effects

Competences: After completing the course student should know basic zootechnical nomenclature, topography of particular animal species, rules of particular technological groups and farm animal species breeding, principles of nutrition, maintenance, care and utilization of particular groups and species of farm animals, know the results of genetic improvement of animals and production intensification, know the possibilities and range of controlling of composition and quality of animal products, know rules of organic breeding of farm animals.

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in the field of animal biology

Course content: Conditions of milk production in Poland and worldwide; trends in animal production development; breeding and husbandry of particular farm animal species; specificity of husbandry and maintenance of various technological groups of farm animals; influence of production intensification on quality of food produced; results of production intensification and large-scale breeding on the environment, health, and performance of animals; practices with animals, project work, laboratory work and rules of some animal products assessment.

Recommended literature: Chów i hodowla zwierząt. Wydawnictwo AR we Wrocławiu 2005, Praca zbiorowa pod redakcją T. Szulca Literatura uzupełniająca: przewodnik do ćwiczeń, normy żywienia zwierząt.

Assessment methods: obligatory completion of practices, minimum 60% of knowledge to pass
