Learning outcomes: Knowledge: student has knowledge on the level higher than secondary school about chemical composition of plants and animals; student describes structures and functions of digestive tract of animals on each organization level; student knows basic ecological relationship in animal nutrition; student knows rules of animal nutrition management. Skills: student proficiently formulates of daily ration for different animal species; student describes an effect of environmental factors /food, feed/ on organism; student is able to prepare a report on the nutritional status of the specific animal species.

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): student is sensitive to the nature and care about the quality and future of natural environment; student on the basis of acquired knowledge is able to run a business in the field of animal husbandry.

Prerequisites:

Course content: Physiological and biochemical relationships in animal husbandry nutrition. Differences in utilization of energy, protein, minerals and vitamins in various animal species. “Ideal protein” for poultry and pigs. Bioavailability of minerals and vitamins. Schemes of action of antinutritive substances and biologically active substances. Specificity of rumen metabolism in dairy cows and other ruminants. Yield and quality milk control by dairy cows nutrition. Physiological conditioning of pigs and poultry nutrition. Specificity of ecological nutrition. Physiological principles of concentrate mixture and premixes formulation. Formulation of different options of nutrition of various animal species. Methods of increase of nutrient digestibility. Microorganisms number in digestive tract control.

Assessment methods: Individual approval of the tasks realized during exercises. The participation in the exercises is compulsory. In the case of justified absence the student is obliged to charge the relevant part of the knowledge and to approve the task at the additional term or at the consultation mode. The final note follows from the evaluation of the self-performed work on the nutrition of definite person. The course passes with the exercise approval.
