Learning outcomes: On successful completion of the course, the student will gain the theoretical knowledge of habitat conditions in which plants are grown, and the knowledge of agricultural practices applied in the production of different groups of crop plants, as well as the planning of crop production operations. The student will be aware of the environmental hazards caused by fertilization, the use of chemical pesticides, tillage, nutrient leaching and depletion of flora and fauna. The student will know the biological value of plants and their role in human nutrition. The student will be familiar with the components of low and high cost crop production systems. Skills: The student will be able to: develop operation sheets for the major groups of crop plants; differentiate habitat and agronomic conditions that affect the yield of crops, including vegetables and fruits. The student will be capable of recommending solutions leading to an increase in agricultural production efficiency.

Competences: Social competences: The student will demonstrate the understanding of the cause-and-effect links between habitat and crop plant and consumer. The student will be aware of the need for continuous education and integration of knowledge from different fields. The student will observe the rules of occupational safety and health in agricultural practices and will demonstrate the responsibility for the equipment entrusted.

Prerequisites: Botany, soil science, plant nutrition, selected elements of plant production.

Course content: Theoretical foundations of plant production. Low and high cost crop production systems. Integrated crop production. Formation of yield quantity and quality. Crop production technologies, including a negative impact on natural environment.
