Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Students define theoretical basis for biological control of pests .They designate the organisms which can be used in biological control in glasshouses and field crops. They identyfine the mutually adaptations of insects and plants in aspects of flower pollination. They describe the effects of pollinators on plant yielding.. (R2A_W04, R2A_W05) Skills: Students explain interactions between of the number of pests and their natural enemies. They estimate the effectiveness of natural enemies as control agents. They distinguish predacity and parasitism among insects and mites. They introduce pollinators into glasshouses crop. (R2A_U04, R2A_U05, R2A_U06)

Competences: Personal and social competences: Students display the understanding of necessity biological methods in plant protection because of restrictions for using chemical insecticides. They appreciate the natural enemies in reduction of pest number. They prepare the schedule for conservation as beneficial organisms as predators, parasites and pollinators. (R2A_U04, R2A_U05, R2A_U06)

Prerequisites: Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Entomology

Course content: Plant protection methods applied in horticultural crops. Possibility of application of biological method. Natural enemies of pests and their effectiveness in glasshouse and field crops. Requirement of horticultural plants relevant to pollination. Adaptation of insects to flower pollination Characteristic and systematic of bees.

Assessment methods: Credit for practical after semester 2.
