Learning outcomes: Knowledge: student obtains general knowledge of the plant morphology and anatomy and their variability (as a sequence evolutionary development) ; he or she understands the relations between cell structure of tissues and tissue functions ; he or she knows plant reproduction cycles and their development during the evolution process; student knows characteristic features of the main systematic groups of the Phytobionta kingdom Skills: he or she can recognize the most popular field weeds, meadow and cultivated plants, including harmful or poisoning ones. Thus he or she gains skilling for general assessment of the value of green forage selection; he or she is able to prepare microscopic slides and use microscope for biological observations; he or she is able to use a dichotomic key to determinate plant species.

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): a student is aware of his or her responsibility for the adequate selection and control of species composition connected with pastures and meadows.

Prerequisites: Biology on the level of secondary school.

Course content: Course contents: Plant morphology. Structure and origin of plant organs and their modifications. Plant reproduction types. Basicsof plant systematics. Characteristicsof the selected and more important families of the angiosperms division. Construction of an optical microscope. Principles of microscopy. Basis of the preparation of microscope slides. Rules for implementing of schematic drawings. Construction of the plant cell. Structure and function of plant tissues. Basics of plant anatomy.

Assessment methods: Exercise assessment: regular (before every meeting, except of the first one) written tests to assess the actual knowledge (specific questions for material from previous class and the more general questions for material from current class) - a total of 11 tests. Current rating (visual) of the regularity of the exercise and individual work. Assessment of schematic drawings made. Practical verification of skills connected with the determination of plant species names using determination keys. Attendance at the exercises is mandatory, and the student can have only two absences, including at most one unjustified. In the case of justified absence, a student is required to pass the relevant part of the material. Assessment of the exercises is based on the average rating of all colloquia. ompletion of the course: it is based on the written tests connected with exercises and lectures (both are led separately). Assessment of knowledge for the lecture material is conducted after its completion. Evaluation of exercise knowledge is based on the written tests carried out prior to every meeting (except of the first one). Final grade is the average of the credit ratings of lectures and exercises. If a student does not pass the lecture material for the first time, he or she has the right to repeat the test within the period prescribed by the teacher (no later than the end of the exam session).
