Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student W01 - is able to choose the species and varieties of fodder plants to be cultivated in different places of plants rotation [BH2 W12; BH2 W14]; W02 - knows the nutritive value of forages produced on farm as natural and preserved ones (hay, silages) [BH2 W09]; W03 - is able to list and characterize the factors that modify the nutritive value of these feeds [BH2 W04]; W04 - knows the technology of silages and hay production [BH2 W04]. Skills: Student U01 - It is able to organize the forages production considering nutritional requirement of ruminants [BH2 U06; BH2 U07; BH2 U08]; U02 – can exploit the productive potential of meadows and pastures by their correct utilization[BH2 U08]; U03 – Is able to organoleptically examine the quality of forages produced on the farms [BH2 U10]; U04 - is able to calculate the diets depending on quality of own forages [BH2 U06].

Competences: Student K01 - understands the role ruminants in the rural production turnover as well as in the country environment formation [BH2 K06]; K02 understands the role of pasture as the most natural form of herbivores nutrition that provides the best condition for their behaviour (welfare) [ BH2 K05]; K03 understands role of forages in the “field-animal-table” chain [BH2 K05]; K04 - has consciousness of responsibility for tasks commonly realized in the group [BH2 K01];

Prerequisites: animal nutrition and feed quality, physiology of nutrition

Course content: Training contents:Natural and economic conditions of the field production of feeds and criteria of species and varieties of fodder plants selections in the plants rotation in the aspect of animal requirement for feed. Nutritive value and importance of perennial legume plants in feeding of animals. Grass and grassy-legume mixtures cultivated in the field, chemical characteristics and the ways of their utilization in feeding of ruminants. Permanent green cultivations and pasture in the feed balance. Methods of green matter preservation as well as nutritive value and the use of preserved roughages in feeding of ruminants.
