Learning outcomes: Knowledge: - He knows the processes of formation of small towns and villages, has a basic knowledge of development trends in the field - He knows the basic methods and techniques for studies and analyzes needed to complete the design task Skills: - He can use different sources for information, uses it and performs the necessary analysis of existing urbanized area - He can formulate suitable conclusions and guidelines for the development vision of a settlement unit Social competences (attitudes): - He is aware of the importance of the issues of the urbanized area shaping and its impact on the environment - He correctly identifies the dilemmas associated with the development of urbanized spaces

Course content: Range of topics is divided into two parts - the formation and transformation processes of small towns and afterwards of rural settlements. The first part includes urban systems of small towns in terms of history, factors affecting small cities as well as processes of rural-urban transformation. Distinguishing features of small towns - markets, dominants and panoramas of localities, mutual relations of the river and the city. Plans for the development of small towns. Factors contributing to the development of small towns. The second part contains the historical morphological forms of village, and the transformation of the European rural settlements. New image of the village and its multifunctionality.
