Learning outcomes: Knowledge: -Students define the basic terms in range of illness theory -Explain and describe mechanisms of functional alterations in illness proceeding -Explain and describe causes of illness Practical skills: -Recognize relationships between local alterations and general alterations in illness proceeding -Carry out simple experiments for knowledge and explanation chosen mechanisms of pathologic disturbances -Know the significance of complex systemic function of the living organism

Competences: -Regard highly permanently broadening medical knowledge and skills -Work in team

Prerequisites: Anatomy, Histology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology

Course content: Concepts of health and disease. Homeostasis and disease. Pathogenesis. Adaptation in the disease. Inflammation, fever. Shock and stress of the adaptation processes. Aetiology of diseases. Metabolism disorders. Participation of vitamins and microelements in regulatory processes. Disorders of endocrine system. Disorders of water-electrolytes equilibrium. Disorders of acid-base balance. Pathophysiology of peripheral circulation. Pathophysiology of blood and hemopoetic system. Disorders of haemostasis. Etiopathogenesis of neoplasm.

Assessment methods: Passing grades of laboratory coursea fter each semester, final oral exam after the semester 5. Minimum passing grade: at least 60%.

Comment: This subject lasts two semesters: Pathophysiology I and Pathophysiology II.
