Learning outcomes: Knowledge: The effect of course is knowledge about some ecological problems which are very useful for undergraduate students. Students gain an integrated perspectives on the field of ecology by exploring topics as the scope of ecology, major biotic levels, population dynamics, ecosystems diversity, environmental pollution, protection of environment and also biodiversity. Skills: Students know how ecological principles can be applied to address issues such as resource management, conservation biology, ecosystem health and restoration ecology. Student has also necessary skills to data interpretation as well as to make an appraisal of oral presentation.

Competences: Personal and social competences: A student can select information correctly, respect copyright laws and has abilities to enable correct interpretation connected with the environmental protection.

Prerequisites: Botany, Zoology, Plant Physiology, Soil Science

Course content: Ecology – its relation to other sciences. Levels of organization hierarchy. Individual and population – interactions. Dynamics of populations. Population in communities. Concepts and models of ecosystem. Energy in ecological systems. Agroecosytems. Urban ecology. Environmental pollution. Responses of plants to environmental stresses. Biodiversity crisis.

Assessment methods: Written exam
