Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1 – knows the enzymatic system sof microorganisms and higher plants [KB_W06]; W2 – shows the possibilities of applications of enzymatic reactions in industry [KB_W18]; Skills: Student: U1 – performs correctly simple biotechnological experiments [KB_U05; KB_U12]; U2 – has skills in working in microbial laboratory, particularly in the aspect of cultivation of microorganisms [KB_U06]; U3 – is experienced in isolation, purification and analysis of biotransformation products [KB_U12];

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Student: K1 - has awerness of responsibility for the tasks implemented in the team [KB_K02]; K2 – is responsible for the equipment in the laboratory [KB_K08]; K3 – follows the rules of health and safety in work, connected with common occuring of microorganisms [KB_K09].

Prerequisites: organic chemistry, biochemistry, basic microbiology

Course content: The bases of biotechnological process, enzymatic reactions using whole cells and isolated enzymes, advantages and disadvantages of biotransformations, application of enzymatic reactions in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic industry as well as environment protection, biotransformations in natural environment.

Assessment methods: Compulsory attendance on lectures and laboratory excercises, correct performance of experiments, written reports, passing the test.

Comment: Taking into consideration the specificity of the work in chemical-biotechnological laboratory the excercises will be performed as follows: 4 hours for 3 weeks + 3 hours for 1 week.
