Learning outcomes: Knowledge Student is acquainted with relevant materials and technologies for asphalt and concrete pavements construction. Student knows specifications and methods of quality assessment for road layers and subgrade materials. Student knows procedures for design of road structure in accordance to its load. Student knows the damaging factors, typical damage patterns and methods of road renovation. Student has knowledge of environmental impact of used technology and of environmentally-friendly solutions in pavement realization. Student is familiar to historical methods of roads performance and methods of temporary roads construction. Student understands the importance of the quality of applied materials and technologies for durability of road structure. Skills Student can perform standard laboratory tests to determine characteristics and to value the quality of materials for road construction. Student is able to properly arrange layers of road structure dependent on assumptions on load and lifecycle and existing groundwater and subsoil conditions. Student is able to evaluate the pavement condition on the basis of visual inspection. Student can select adequate renovation method. Student can establish and experimentally verify recipes of bituminous and cement-based mixes for construction of road subbase, base and surface.

Competences: Student is aware of the essential role of roads in social and economic development of modern society. Student understands that engineers’ decisions can influence the environment and its resources.
