Learning outcomes: The student understands the essence of sociology as a science about society; has the general theoretical knowledge about basic sociological concepts and basic concepts and theories that constitute the sociology of scientific apparatus; knows the basic methods of sociological research; knows the basic concepts of psychological and regularities of emotional development of the human being; learns the principles of solving interpersonal problems; understands the complexities of the relationship between individual and environment in their psychological dimension. Abilities: Student is able to identify sociology as a science and name its precursors; can describe and name the components of the social system and characterize the basic community; is able to characterize the concept of a nation and civilization in terms of sociology; can properly interpret the results of surveys; uses acquired knowledge in the field of research methods to self-prepare a questionnaire and survey form; is able to choose the appropriate criteria for assessing acceptable variants of conduct; can specify a method (procedure) of making decisions in human relationships; is able to use the basic principles of conflict solving.

Competences: Students can complement and improve the acquired knowledge and abilities; can work in a group taking different roles as well as take responsibility for own and others’ work; understands the need for shaping efficient, friendly relations in close relationships with other people; will know how people with different attitudes, temperaments and aspirations interact in society.

Prerequisites:

Course content: Sociology as one of humanities. Society as a subject of sociology. Definitions and types of social groups. The sociological concepts of the nation. The nation and ethnic group. The clash of civilizations according to Huntington's vision. The family as the basic section of socialization. Changes in contemporary Polish family. The practical application of the results of social psychology. Activation of the motives and goals. The affective system: feelings, social cognition, persuasion: what determines susceptibility to persuasion. Social influence: affiliation and friendship, agreeableness and dominance, love and romantic relationships. Prejudices and stereotypes. Terms of making the right decisions. Modern automatism.
