Learning outcomes: Knowledge: The student gets to know the relations between the construction of engineering materials and proprieties in the theoretical and practical range. He gets to know the principles the rational their selection to the specific use and the technological and economic aspects utilization of material from renewable sources on example of the wood, also. Skills: The student purchases the skills of the analysis of the structure of typical engineering materials, he is able to determine their basic strength parameters and qualify usefulness to specific utilization in the technique on this basis.

Competences: The student knows advantages resulting from the effective chosen of the engineering material to the specific use aspect to their technical, exploitation properties and influence on the environment. He cautions the principles of the safety work in the laboratory and values the necessity of the additional schooling in the fields of materials engineering.

Prerequisites: Mathematics, Physics, Engineering Mechanics

Course content: The profile of metallic, polymers, ceramic and composition materials - the classification and uses. Determine methods of their technical proprieties. Optimization of chosen the engineering material to the specific use. The typical mechanisms of the wear and destruction of elements made from these materials. Metals and their alloys, graphs of equilibrium, microstructure. The basis of the thermal and thermal-chemical processing. Wood and the derivative, technological and economic aspects of utilization the materials from renewable sources.
