Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student:has general knowledge in the field of cattle breeding; has general knowledge in the field of cattle husbandry; has general knowledge in the field of cattle production technology; has the basic knowledge in the field of manufacturing and obtaining of cattle origin products; demonstrates the basic knowledge on bovine milk and meat. Skills: Student: has an ability of searching, understanding, analysis and application of needed information from breeding documentation; performs under scientific tutor direction simple project task concerning widely understood cattle breeding, properly interprets results and draws conclusions; analyses biological processes accompanying cattle utilization; has an ability of elaboration of breeding assumptions for cattle; is able to elaborate projects in the field of cattle breeding; is able to make an assessment of the state of environmental conditions and health status of particular cattle categories; is able to make an assessment of an effectiveness of bovine milk and livestock production; presents an ability of interference in particular stages of cattle breeding and is able for elimination of threats using suitable methods.

Competences: Student: is able to treat the animals in a responsible way; is aware of the responsibility for the results of improperly led cattle breeding; is able to conduct cattle breeding in an aware and responsible manner taking care of their proper maintenance, health and safety; is aware of a need of an additional training and self-improvement in a range of cattle breeding.

Prerequisites: Animal anatomy and physiology, Basis of Animals breeding, Genetics, Animal nutrition

Course content: Place and economical meaning, utilization types and breeds of cattle. Technological aspects of bovine production. Cattle reproduction. Factors conditioning value of milk and meat performance features. Analysis of an effectiveness of milk and meat production. Basis of an assessment of cattle utilization features.

Assessment methods: Completing tutorials: two written tests; current assessment of learning progress and activity (oral form). Presence at the tutorials is mandatory; student can have only one unexcused absence. In case of absence the student must complete the relevant part of the knowledge. Completing the tutorials is based on the average grade. Completing the course: students who completed the tutorials are obligated to write a final exam during the exam session. Duration of the exam is 90 minutes. If a student fails on the first attempt, he has the right to pass again the exam in oral or written form during repeats.
