Learning outcomes: Knowledge Students gain knowledge of the contemporary meaning of the landscape and theoretical basis of planning the changes in the landscape. He knows the legal basis for creating landscape forms of landscape protection and the rules and models of landscape management in Poland and in the world. He has knowledge of the functions, the meaning and principles of creating green areas in the city and the main species of trees and shrubs created the landscape. He knows the landscape assessment methods in natural, cultural and visual aspect for planning the landscape changes and the rules for drawing up the study of the landscape. Abilities The student can accumulate on the basis of the available literature, source materials and field research necessary data for the analysis of the natural environment, cultural and visual heritage. Student can identify the primary risks and problems associated with planned changes in the landscape and the factors that cause negative changes in the landscape, as well as to assess the current state of the landscape. Can define the basic goals and directions of landscape management for planning documents. Student has the ability to evaluate and choose possible investment locations without negative impact on the landscape.

Competences: The student can define his role in the team, understands the essence of the leader of the group and shared responsibility for assigned tasks. Able to properly plan the division of tasks and assess a landscape with the team and develop principles of landscape management. Student has the ability to give public information about solutions of problems. Student has the ability to make a critical evaluation and selection of the best possible solutions.

Prerequisites: Natural conditions in land management

Course content: The differences in the understanding and perception of the landscape. Structure and resources of the landscape. Legal basis for the protection , management and planning of the landscape and the functioning of areas of protected landscape. Discussion of the content and meaning of the European Landscape Convention. Landscape management in Poland in terms of the law on spatial planning and development. Examples landscape studies in Poland. Models of landscape management on the example of European countries. Causes and effects of negative changes in the landscape. Main elements and principles of landscape management of urban and rural areas. Functions , importance and principles of shaping green places in urban and rural areas. Basic species of trees , shrubs in Polish landscape. Methods of landscape characterization and assessment of changes in the landscape for spatial planning. Protection and landscape shaping as part of environmental impact assessments. Predicting changes in the landscape. Landscape impact assessment. Monitoring changes in the landscape.

Assessment methods: Two projects and written exam.
