Learning outcomes: Knowledge: W1 - knows the biology, systems of fur animals maintenance, feeding and care [BH1_W01, R1A_W01, InzA_W01; BH1_W11, R1A_W04; BH1_W14, R1A_W05, InzA_W02, InzA_W04]; W2 - knows technological processes of fur skin obtaining and processing, as well as rabbit and nutria meat obtaining [BH1_W14, R1A_W05, InzA_W02, InzA_W04; BH1_W15, R1A_W05, R1A_W03, R1A_W04, InzA_W02]; W3 - has a general theoretical knowledge concerning skin and fur coat features, knows modern methods of hair coat features laboratory analysis [BH1_W11, R1A_W04; BH1_W15, R1A_W05, R1A_W03, R1A_W04, InzA_W02]. Skills: U1 - identifies correctly fur animal breeds and varieties [BH1_U05, R1A_U05, InzA_U05, InzA_U07]; U2 - is able to elaborate the projects in the range of fur animal breeding [BH1_U09, R1A_U06, InzA_U01]; U3 - is able to evaluate animal health status, breeding environment state, and can evaluate fur animal origin products [BH1_U12, R1A_U06, InzA_U01; BH1_U11, R1A_U06, InzA_U01, InzA_U02, InzA_U08].

Competences: K1 - updates regularly the knowledge of biology [BH1_K03, R1A_K03]; K2 - is aware of risks for animals resuting from civilizational progress [BH1_K04, R1A_K03, InzA_K01]; K3 - has ethical attitudes towards animals and understands welfare importance [BH1_K10, R1A_K07].

Prerequisites: Anatomy and animal physiology.

Course content: To familiarize students with the problems of husbandry and breeding of fur animals, trends in the specialized field of animal fur production, choice of species, range and direction of improvement of animals, modern building solutions. The principles of carnivorous fur animals husbandry will be presented in details (fox common and arctic foxes, raccoon, mink, ferrets), as well as herbivore fur animals (rabbits, chinchillas and nutria). Reproductive problems of these animals and biotechnological methods will be disscuss, feeding, coat evaluation and utility (felting) of diffrent types of hair coverings.
