Learning outcomes: Part I: Learning outcomes and competences: During the course a student will get know a plant structure on different levels – from a molecular level, through plant tissues and organs to whole organism. Knowledge: Structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, types and functions of plant tissues, overview plant anatomy and morphology. Skills: A student knows and understands the basic concepts connected with cytology, histology and plant organography, he possesses abilities essential to recognize elements of plant cells and types of plant tissues, a participant can describe plant organs and recognize main type of influences and fruits. Part II: Learning outcomes and competences: The main goal of this course it to present to students main trends in plants evolution. Participants acquire vast knowledge of plant developments systematics and identifications. Knowledge: Review of bacteria and alga systematics, overview of bryophytes and ferns, e.g. their structure, life cycle, biological properties and geographical distribution. Knowledge of evolution and systematic of gymnosperms and angiosperms based on the most common plant families. Skills: A student demonstrates knowledge of plants evolution and systematic. He can recognize various plant species in their natural habitat. A student is able to indicate rare and endangered plant species as well as appoint horticultural and agricultural plants.

Competences: Personal and social competences: A student understands and shows knowledge related to structure and function of plants. Through the course student improves skills need to broaden his botanical knowledge. A student has knowledge and understanding of problem concerning structure and function of plants on different organization levels.

Prerequisites: Basic biology

Course content: Part I: Structure of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells, plant tissues, anatomy and morphology of vascular plants (roots, lives, stems and flowers), inflorescence types, structure and type of fruits. Part II: Bacteria and alga systematic. Structure, life cycle and biological threats of bryophytes and ferns. Classification, nomenclature and identification of gymnosperms and angiosperms.

Assessment methods: Final exam - minimal level of knowledge demanded to completion is 60%. Before the exam practical knowledge of plant identification will be required.

Comment: Some classes are organized in the field, during which students will recognize various plant species.
