Learning outcomes: During the course student will get knowledge on basic concepts and operational skills necessary for data entry, data manipulation and analysis, and the production of interpretable output.

Competences: Completion of the course gives the bases to conduct projects which require use of GIS.

Prerequisites: Applicants must have elementary computer experience, regular access to internet and e-mail.

Course content: Course content: • a introduction to GIS • geographical information and spatial data types • hardware and software, GIS, steps in spatial data handling • database management systems • spatial referencing • spatial data input, data preparation • point data transformation • advanced operations on continuous field rasters • analytical GIS capabilities • data visualization • discovery, view and download services for the spatial data

Assessment methods: written exam, exercises assessment: written verification of practical knowledge + presentation of 3 projects, minimum knowledge necessary to pass – 60%
