Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Students have a theoretical and practical knowledge in safe obtaining and use of plan biomass as a renewable energy source in the national economy. Students are able to characterize environmental factors which condition plan biomass production for energy use. Students are familiar with biological and socio-economic conditions for energy crops management in a moderate climate. Students have knowledge in pro-ecological biomass production and their use for energy. W1 - Students have a general competence in field production of crops and in raw plant materials. [BZ_W06, BZ_W07]; W2 - Students have a general competence in energy crop field management and the influence of energy crops on agricultural environment. [BZ_W08] Skills: Students are able to recognize crop species and evaluate the conditions of the plants used for energy biomass. They know how to apply principles of pro-ecological crop management technology, and to design energy crop plantation. They are able calculate energy value of the harvested plant biomass, and they have skills in basic methods of obtaining energy out of these crops. U1 - Students have skills in gathering information, recognizing and evaluating crop species. [BZ_U01]; U2 - Students have skills for preparing a written project of energy crop management technology. [BZ_U02]; U3 - Students have skills to select appropriate fertilizers, as well as weed and pest control for a given crop species. [BZ_U08]

Competences: Students have a need for improvement and training within the area of renewable energy crops. They understand phenomena regarding crops and environmental conditions. They have skills to work individually and in a research team. They follow work safety principles when conducting field management. They are aware of the responsibilities that follow the decisions they make. K1 – Students understand the necessity for life-long learning[BZ_K01]; K2 – Students are aware of their responsibilities for their decisions. [BZ_K04]

Prerequisites: Biology (secondary school level)

Course content: Energy policy, energy safety and food safety, characteristics of non-renewable and renewable energy sources, and uses of biomass. Environmental conditions and their influence on plant biomass production. Pro-ecological technologies in energy crop production in moderate climate conditions. Preparing a project of a crop management technology for a selected energy crop species.
