Learning outcomes: A student gets a theoretical knowledge of probability theory and mathematical statistics at elementary level; is able to calculate, using the data: estimators of location and dispersion, work out the correlations, construct confidence intervals, build regression models and test the significance of the models. Student has practical skills in applications of probability and statistics in real situations, particularly in applications in geodesy.

Competences: Passing the course permits the possibility of statistical analysis of measurement data.

Prerequisites: mathematical analysis, algebra

Course content: probability, discrete and continuous distributions, expectation and variance of random variables, general population, sample, data, data types, estimators of expectation and variance, confidence intervals for expectation for any distribution and for normal distribution, confidence intervals for probability, determination of sample size, linear regression, method of least squares, correlation, regression error, significance of regression.
