Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1 – knows the basic economic rules [BC1_W17]; W2 – has a general knowledge of marketing [BC1_W17, BC1_W19]; W3 – knows the various forms of economic activity [BC1_W17, BC1_W19]; W4 – has a general knowledge of taxes [BC1_W17]. Skills: Student: U1 – can perform a simple calculation of costs and revenues [BC1_U13]; U2 – can use the available sources of economic information in biologist profession [BC1_U17];

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Student: K1 – has symptoms consistent with the principles of entrepreneurial economics [BC1_K02, BC1_K10]; K2 – is aware of the relationship of nature and economic issues [BC1_K04].

Prerequisites: basics of mathematics

Course content: The concept of economics; basic problems and economic rules; the market; supply and demand; competition in the economy; enterprise – forms of organization, environment, costs, revenues and profits; basic of marketing; money, inflation and unemployment; cyclical nature of economic processes; taxes; state economic policy; the banking system.

Assessment methods: Written credits in 45 minutes (20 closed multiple choise questions and 3 tasks) in a class session. If credits has not been positively written in the first period, the student has the right to re-take them orally or in writing in a period of improvement.
