Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Knows the terminology that is used in the humanities and social sciences, understands its sources and uses within related disciplines (K_W01). Has an extended knowledge of the social and humanistic, and is able to indicate the relationship between the humanities and the social and agricultural sciences, forestry, veterinary and natural (P2A_W08, R2A_W02, T2A_W08, InzA_W03). Skills: Is ably looking for information, analyzes and creative use of information (P2A_U01, R2A_U01, T2A_U01). Is able to analyze and interpret social phenomena (P2A_U07, R2A_U05, S2A_U01, S2A_U08, WetA_UOUZ6). Is planning a career or academic pathway (P2A_U11, X2A_U07).

Competences: Understands the need for lifelong learning and updating her/his knowledge (P2A_K01, R2A_K01, R2A_K07, S2A_K01, T2A_K01, T2A_K04, T2A_K05, WetA_KP6, X2A_K01). Prerequisites: Humanities in the high school.

Course content: Problems of Polish agriculture and rural areas in a historical perspective. Changes in rural communities. Macro-economic and socio-cultural conditions change. Current situation of rural areas and agriculture. Social and economic processes determined by the market economy. Empirical studies of processes and phenomena occurring in rural communities. Theoretical approaches adopted by researchers in the description and explanation of socio-economic reality rustic areas. The changing role of the state and its institutional system in creating change in rural communities and in Polish agriculture. Agricultural policy and rural development policy after accession to the European Union. Scenarios of agricultural and rural development formulated by researchers and Polish political elites. Agricultural progress and processes of transfers to individual farming. The paradigm of sustainable development, the development of endogenous, multifunctional agriculture and rural development. Role of resources: social and cultural capital of rural residents.

Assessment methods: Final evaluation of the lectures is a component of the scoring in the knowledge, skills and social competence. There are summed points obtained from the written test, activity, discussions, attendance and additional tasks. Knowledge shall be verified with the use of the written test. Written test includes two problem questions, to assess skills. Social competence are evaluated based on participation in class discussions and thematic attendance and performing additional tasks. Required level necessary to pass: 60%
