Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1-after the course the student knows the structure of the human reproductive system, has a general knowledge about the human embryonic and fetal development. They can describe inborn defects in the respiratory, digestive, genitourinary, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal and nervous systems [KB2_W01; KB2_W01_BC]. W2- knows primary and secondary prevention of congenital defects in humans and the most common teratogenic factors that may cause birth defects in humans[ KB2_W04_BC]. Skills: Student: U1- obtains skills to prepare an attractive presentation and to present research results for birth defects in the development of human. They confront their own opinions with others' opinions and discuss them competently [KB2_U05]. U2- using professional literature in birth defects in the development of human effectively [KB2_U06]. U3- analyzies genetics and social conditioning of structure and function of live forms [KB2_U07]. After the course student will be able to find and systematize knowledge of birth defects and to interpret available information. Knowledge and skills gained during the course can be helpful at work in a diagnostic laboratory. After completion of the course the student can work in foundations that help people with inborn defects.

Competences: Personal and social comptences (attitudes): Student: K1- is willing to systemically update knowledge of birth defects in the development of human and related disciplines [KB2_K01]. K2-s working in a team and understands effectiveness of the team work [KB2_K02]. K3-They are creative in problem solving [KB2_K03].

Prerequisites: Biochemistry, basics of genetics, molecular biology, biology of animal development

Course content: Understanding the stages of prenatal development in humans and possible defects occurring during abnormal development.
