Study Semester: 3
ECTS points: 9
Hours (Lectures / Tutorials / Other): 30 / 60 / 0
Lecturer: dr hab. Anita Rywińska prof. nadzw. UP we Wrocławiu
Language of instruction: Polish

Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student defines the basic biochemical rules, know structure, function and metabolic processes of proteins, nucleic acids, lipids, sugars with participation of appropriate enzymes and know the enzymes kinetics and energetic processes in biochemistry. The student knows the kinetics of enzyme action - can explain the integration and hierarchy of cellular processes - distinguishes enzymes, co-enzymes and vitamins - distinguishes fractions of nucleic acids, and the replication, transcription and translation. Skills: Passing the course permits working in laboratories because student understands the biochemical process and he is able to use methods get to know to carry out an experiment. After finishing exercises the student is able also correctly to interpret results of experience.

Competences: Social skils (attitude): Students are able to work in teams, adapt appropriate method to biological substances measurement, and know how to study enzymes activity and properties. They can perform qualitative and quantitative analyses of substances and make the proper calculations. Students know how to use laboratory equipment.

Prerequisites: Inorganic chemistry, organic chemistry

Course content: Structure, function and metabolism of biologically important molecules (amino acids, proteins, sugar, fatty acids) characteristic, mechanism and kinetics of enzyme action, coenzymes and vitamins soluble in fats; catabolic and anabolic processes; biosynthesis, structure and function of nucleic acids, location and regulation of metabolism and digestive processes in human; regulation and integration of cell metabolism.
