Learning outcomes: Knowledge Student: W1 - has a theoretical knowledge of evolutionary processes in biology, principles of natural classification of organisms, classical taxonomy and evolutionary [KB2_W01 , KB2_W05 , KB2_W04_BT] ; W2 - analyzes phylogenetic trees , understands models and algorithms for their reconstruction [KB2_W01 , KB2_W05 , KB2_W04_BT] ; W3 - describes methods for reconstructing the phylogeny [KB2_W01 , KB2_W05 , KB2_W04_BT] . Skills: Student: U1 - interprets processes of plants and animals phylogenesis [KB2_U01 , KB2_U09_BT] ; U2 - able to prepare the data for phylogenetic analyzes [KB2_U03 , KB2_U09_BT] ; U3 - verifies and interprets the results of phylogenetic analysis [KB2_U04_BT, KB2_U09_BT] ;

Competences: Social competence ( attitudes ) Student: K1- demonstrates awareness of updating the knowledge of the analytical techniques used in biological research [KB2_K01] ; K2 - is open to new technical developments and actively improve their qualifications using scientific publications and popular [KB2_K01] .

Prerequisites:

Course content: The concepts of evolution and natural classification of organisms, taxonomy methods, the characteristics of taxonomic criteria for the scheme of organisms, analysis of phenotypic and phylogenetic methods of reconstruction of phylogenetic trees , verification and interpretation of the results of phylogenetic analyzes.

Assessment methods: Completion of the course: students holding a valid pass a written exam exercises showing the open issues to be addressed in the examination session. If the exam will not be counted for the first time the student has the right to seem him again within a second term. Assessment exercises: written tests and projects to assess the current rating (based on oral statements) progress in science and activity. Attendance at the exercises is mandatory; student can have only one unexcused absence. In the absence excused student is required to pass the relevant part of the material. Assessment exercises based on the average ratings.
