Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1 - knows the base of biological and evolutionary determinants of human behavior at each stage of ontogeny, and shows the differences and similarities in behavior and preferences of humans, primates and other animals [KB2_W01, KB2_W05_BC]; W2 - knows the methodology used in the study of human behavior [KB2_W01, KB2_W07]. Skills: Student: U1 - explains and interprets in biological terms the causes of different behaviors and attitudes of man and human groups and indicates the possibilities of preventing undesirable behavior [KB2_U04]; U2 - can conduct research and document the behavior of selected social groups [KB2_U01, KB2_U04].

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Student: K1 - plans collecting data according to their aim and capabilities and organizes them thinking creatively [KB2_K02, KB2_K03].

Course content: Definition of ethology in the context of evolutionary psychology, behavioral ecology, sociobiology; methodology; anatomical, physiological and genetic determinants of behavior; phylogenetic and cultural adaptation; social behavior; the family as the nucleus of society; territorialism; intraspecific, intergroup and intragroup aggression; altruism as a biological phenomenon; communication : olfactory, visual, verbal and nonverbal; biological base of human attractiveness, selection in to marriage; ontogenetic development of behavior; parental investment; the ecotype of H. sapiens behavior; ethology and the aesthetics and ethics.

Assessment methods: Assessment exercise: Research project evaluation. Implementation of the presentation. Regular (every 2-3 weeks) written tests to assess the current rating (based on oral statements) progress and activity. The presence of the exercises is compulsory, the student may have only one unauthorized absence. Completion of exercises based on the average ratings.
