Learning outcomes: Knowledge: After completing the course the students knows the warning systems against a variety of natural hazardand has a general knowledge of how to encourage public awareness. He knows the basic ways of communication. nderstands the main principles of effective and ineffective crisis communication. He knows the most important principles of media coverage and the basic methods of working with the media in presence of natural hazards. Skills: He can use a suitable warning system, depending on the type of hazard. He can choose an effective way to communicate with the local community, depending on the type and scale of the threat. He can choose the way to encourage the awareness of the local community. The student is able to offer a form of cooperation with the media in the event of natural hazards. Competences: The student has an understanding of the meaning and importance of natural hazard information for the efficient running of operations in a crisis situation.

Course content: Selection of the information processes depending on the type of risk. Types of communication - interpersonal, mass, informational, persuasive. Effectiveness and ineffectiveness of crisis communication. Selection of effective communication techniques depending on the type and scale of hazards. Principles for communication with the media and methods of cooperation with the media. Warning systems against drought and the extremes occurring in the atmospheric environment. Warning systems against fires. Flood warning systems in Poland.
