Learning outcomes: Knowledge: After completing the course, the student will: W1 - know the basic and universal terminology in the field of animal husbandry, W2 - know the basic types and utility breeds of farm animal species , W3 - understand the phenomenon of growth of the animal W4 - know the types of usability, selection, mating and crossing , W5 - be familiarized with animals reproduction basics, W6 - show the knowledge of animals identification methods Skills: The student is able to: U1 - assign the breed to a specific type of utility [BH_U06, InzA_U05], U2 - analyze the pedigree of the animal [BH_U05, BH_U06, InzA_U05], U3 - analyze the growth of animals [BH_U05, BH_U06], U4 - can determine the age of the animal based on dental characteristics [BH1_U05], U5 - caltulate coefficients of kinship and inbreeding [BH_U05, BH_U06, InzA_U05], U5 - the student knows the functionsof zoometric tools [BH_U05, InzA_U05].

Competences: The student: K1 - understands the importance of animals to humans , K2 - has the correct attitude to animals , K3 - is aware of the consequences of using certain methods of farming , K4 - is prepared to use breeding methods in the herd.

Prerequisites: physiology, genetics

Course content: Content of education: domestication of animals and its effects; growth and development, animal reproduction basics; utility types of animals, livestock division on the groups, phenotypic and genetic value of quantitative traits, selection, types of mating and crossing of animals, pedigree, animals age identification; genes and genotypes frequency in a population, estimating of kinship and inbreeding coefficients, the principles of measurement methods, animal identification methods.
