Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student attains basic knowledge of classical mechanics and equilibrium thermodynamics, knows basic methods of qualitative and quantitative analysis of physical phenomena (in the field of mechanics and thermodynamics) and methodology of the physical experiments. He understands principles of operation of typical physical instruments and can operate them. Skills: Student can build himself the simple measuring set-up, perform measurements and present the results in graphical and analytical form. Knows how to apply physical laws to solve a simple practical problem. Can analyze typical, physical phenomena referring to physical principles. Social skills (attitude): Student understands the universal application of physicals principles. He understands attaching importance to follow the procedures during measurements. He demonstrates responsibility for the equipment entrusted and understands that its proper operation depends on his care and competences. He develops his abilities to work as a team.

Competences: Student can build himself the simple measuring set-up, perform measurements and present the results in graphical and analytical form. Knows how to apply physical laws to solve a simple practical problem. Can analyze typical, physical phenomena referring to physical principles. He understands the universal application of physicals principles also to biological systems.

Prerequisites: Courses of mathematics and physics in secondary school

Course content: Classical mechanics (selected problems) and its application to the analysis of simple systems, (including biological systems). Basics of equilibrium thermodynamics. An introduction to analysis of dynamic systems with use of differential and integral calculus.
