Learning outcomes: Students can choose English, German, French or Russian. They are allocated to groups according to the results obtained in a “Placement Test” written at the beginning of the first semester of the language course. The construction of the test allows language teachers to make a group division in compliance with Common European Framework of Reference. Knowledge: -The student is constantly seeking to expand their knowledge. Competences: -During the course, which is based on elements of content-based instruction, the student learns language skills necessary for success in the field of veterinary medicine in the English-speaking countries. The students read, listen, discuss and write tasks related to medical problems. After completion of the course students can read medical journals and textbooks in English. They can also communicate with their patients` owners and colleagues from other countries. -The students are prepared to take part in conferences conducted in English as well as to work in English- speaking environment. They can take history, describe the course of the disease, discuss the therapy, give a presentation in public on subjects in the field of veterinary medicine. They are also linguistically prepared to take up research into medical science.
Competences: Students learn to work individually and cooperate in a team (in pairs or small groups. They are able to give a presentation in public.
Prerequisites: Polish Matura (from level A2 to B2) after secondary school.
Course content: Level A2 Focuses on listening comprehension, spoken interaction, reading and writing. Vocabulary related to basic personal and family information, shopping, local area, and employment. Reading advertisements, prospects and timetables. Communication in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiar topics and activities. Giving directions, inviting people to social events, etc., short social exchanges. Giving advice, agreeing/disagreeing. Describing people, places and simple situations. Giving short definitions. Writing short, simple notes and messages, postcards and letters.

Assessment methods: semesters 1,2, 3 continuous assessment (active participation, homework, tests), after semester 4- written and oral examination.
