Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Knows the basic terminology that is used in the humanities and social sciences: knows the basic concepts of ethics, defines the basic ethical doctrines, knows selected contemporary ethical issues (K_W01). Has a basic concept how to get other information on the topic of the course (R1A_W02). Has a basic knowledge of social relationships and is able to indicate the relationship between the humanities and the social and agricultural sciences, forestry, veterinary and natural (R1A_W02, R1A_W07, T1A_W08, T1A_W10, S1A_W01, S1A_W02, InzA_W03). Skills: Is ably looking for information, analyzes and uses the literature on the subject of the course (R1A_U01, P1A_U02, P1A_U03, T1A_U11). Uses specialized terminology in the language of the subject (R1A_U09, R1A_U010, WetA_UOUZ16). Is aware of the self-development (P1A_U11, WetA_UOUZ12). Recognizes issues, is able to act pursuant to binding standards and ethical rules (P1A_U02, P1A_U07, T1A_U12, WetA_UOUZ11).

Competences: Is able to work in a team, with taking different roles (R1A_K02, P1A_K02, T1A_K03, A1_K05, S1A_K02, WetA_KP11, InzA_K01). Understands the need for lifelong learning (R1A_K01, R1A_K07, P1A_K01, T1A_K01, S1A_K01, A1_K01, WetA_KP6). Is able to think and act creatively (R1A_K08, P1A_K08, T1A_K06, S1A_K04, InzA_K02). Correctly identifies dilemmas associated with making life and work choices, obeys ethical rules (R1A_K04, P1A_K04, T1A_K05, S1A_K04, A1_K06, WetA_KP2, InzA_K01).

Prerequisites: Humanities in the high school.

Course content: Basic concepts of ethics. The nature of ethics. The main ethical doctrine. Ethics of Aristotle. Classical Christian ethics. Utilitarianism. Kants’ ethics. Postmodern ethics. Bioethics. Applied ethics. Environmental ethics. Business ethics. Some contemporary ethical issues: abortion, suicide, euthanasia, tolerance, equality, pacifism. Revision.

Assessment methods: Final evaluation of the lectures is a component of the scoring in the knowledge, skills and social competence. There are summed points obtained from the written test, activity, discussions, attendance and additional tasks. Knowledge shall be verified with the use of the written test. Written test includes two problem questions, to assess skills. Social competence are evaluated based on participation in class discussions and thematic attendance and performing additional tasks. Required level necessary to pass: 60%
