Abilities: The student can name and describe waterways in Poland and in Europe; knows the design principles of fish passes, can design a surface water intake; knows how to define and calculate the basic criteria for hydraulic testing of physical models of hydrotechnical structures; is able to select appropriate technologies and materials in selected concrete hydrotechnical structures.

Competences: Is aware of the impact of hydrotechnical concrete structures on the environment; can provide information and knowledge to the society in the field of hydraulic engineering.

Prerequisites: Fluid Mechanics, Computer aided design, Mechanics and Strength of Materials, Meteorology and hydrology, Hydrogeology, Regulation of rivers, Soil Mechanics

Course content: Concrete hydraulic construction versus ecology. Guidelines for the design of hydraulic structures. Fish passes. Inland waterways: natural, navigable canals, floating fleet. Structures on waterways: locks, lifts, ramps, river ports. Filtration under and around dams. Washing away of the bottom and banks below the water structures, securing of bottom. Model studies in hydraulic engineering. Surface water intakes and ice conditions on rivers. Net-stone structures (gabions) in hydraulic engineering. Concrete dams and release equipment. Execution and repair of hydraulic structures. Modern technologies and materials in the hydraulic engineering. Hydraulic structures disasters.
