Learning outcomes: Konowledge: Student knows the sources and migration ways of contaminants released by industrial installations and the risk of their negative impact on the quality of components of environment, natural processes, biodiversity and human health; Student knows ligal rules and the local and European politics of risk management in and around industrial installations, as well as the methods of reduction of their negative effects in the environment; Student knows methods of investigation used for an evaluation of the present environmental quality and assessment of the human impact on selected components of environment; Skills: Student is able to select the methods adequate and necessary for an assessment of environmental quality and environmental risk; Student is able to evaluate selected environmental components and assess the environmental risk and the anthropopressure effects in selected environmental compounds using appropriate methods and legal standards; Student is able to suggest the adequate means for reduction of environmental risk, including BAT, and for the remediation or compensation the detriments; Student is able prepare an oral multimedia presentation of the project;

Competences: Student is aware of the range of human impacts and the diversity of nature, thus understands the need of reliable design of risk assessment and investigation of the impact of industrial installations on the environments and human health; Student solves creatively the technical problems related to the environmental risk assessment, including research design; Student is aware of and individual and social responsibility for the state of environment and risk for human health;

Prerequisites: Basic knowledge in environmental law, including waste management, water management, land reclamation, environmental monitoring

Course content: Risk for environment and for human health related to industrial installation operating. The scale and kinds of industrial installations and the environmental risk. Integrated environmental decision as a mean of risk management. Opening report for industrial installations. Implementation of the best available technologies (BAT) in the industrial installations. Environmental monitoring in and around the industrial installation. Certificates of environmental management. Entrepreneur obligations in the risk reporting and information on the environmental quality. EU and national legal rules and standards for environmental risk management in industrial areas.
