Learning outcomes: The student after completion of the course should learn the principles of buildings design, know the content of design documentation for construction, and read buildings projects. He should be able to practically apply the knowledge gained at the stage of the profession both in designing and implementing works.

Course content:  Introduction to construction, definitions of selected terms: construction, structure, building, etc. Types of construction of buildings objects. Examples of contemporary architectural objects of different types.  Spatial, terrain, functional and aesthetic requirements specific to particular, types of buildings and structures. The impact of the construction objects on the environment.  Materials science. Basic technical properties of building materials. Discussion of construction materials (wood, stone, ceramics, concrete and ferroconcrete materials) and nonstructural materials (insulation and finishing materials) Adhesives and mortars. Requirements for materials used in shaping the landscape architecture objects.  Construction project. Technical issues associated with designing and constructing of buildings objects at different scales and different purposes. The components of the project. Project reading. Repeatable and individual project. Stages of design works (utility, functional system, requirements).  The technical standards applicable in the construction industry. Sections of the building and constructions.  Dimensioning on the construction drawings - horizontal projection.  Dimensioning on the construction drawings – vertical projection.  Basic knowledge of construction. Earthworks, rope-benches. The foundations and insulations of the building footings: division, materials, methods. Solving of footings walls of the building and constructions.  Basic knowledge of construction, cont. Construction technologies and thermal insulation of external walls, division walls. Division. Construction technologies of walls, thermal bridges. Wooden walls: massive wooden walls, light frameworks walls, timberframe- half beam frame walls,  Basic knowledge of construction, cont. Masonry walls: stone, brick, ceramic pored hollow bricks walls. Cellular concrete walls.  Basic knowledge of construction, cont. Layer walls. Lightweight housing, prefabricated walls.  Ceilings. Introduction and division. Wood ceilings. Steel-ceramic ceilings.  Ceilings cont. Ferroconcrete ceilings. Protection of ceilings against vibrations, against the fire, sound insulation.  Roof covering. Slopes (steep roofs, constructions with small slopes). Variety of wooden roof trusses. Lattice trusses. Ferroconcrete and steel roof constructions. Structures with knee wall. Roof covering with large spans.
