Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student can characterize particular subjects of intellectual protection law and of copyright’s law. Student knows and characterizes protection’s systems of inventions and compositions in force in Poland. Student demonstrates knowledge of patent’s terminology. Student can identify procedures of Patent Office proceedings. Student knows means of intellectual property protection and manners of litigation solving. Student has overall knowledge of civil law principles. Skills: Student knows and distinguishes subjects of industrial property rights, he can name them and assign adequate protection rights to them. In practical way he can use patent description as a source of literature and knowledge about available solutions. Without breaking foreign rights he can use composition within the meaning of Copyright law.

Competences: Social skills (attitude): Student has awareness of legal protection of intellectual protection’s subjects. Student demonstrates comprehension of respecting for industrial property right, copyrights and associated rights. Student follows rules of respecting for authorship in activities related to production of creative works (including dissertations). Student demands respecting copyrights of his works.

Prerequisites: microbiology, mechanics, chemistry

Course content: Basis of intellectual property law. Industrial Property Law. Act on Copyright and related rights. Act on suppression of unfair competition. Subjects of industrial property law. Patent Office proceedings. Patent qualification of biotechnological achievements. Practical aspects of protection of intellectual and industrial property in the field of biotechnology. Biotechnological inventions in international conventions and UE regulations.
