Learning outcomes: The student acquires knowledge about the types of materials for the construction of machine parts. He can recognize and name a group of metallic materials, plastics, construction materials. He is also able to formulate expectations of the characteristics possessed by the material and acquires the ability to determine the values of basic parameters describing the properties of materials.

Competences: A student acquires the ability to carry out the materials management in the company, he can deal with the materials trade in commerce. Knowledge allows for increasing the competence of the design of technical facilities.

Prerequisites: Physics and chemistry at the level of the first semester.

Course content: The types of engineering materials. Metals and their alloys. Industrial alloys. Non-ferrous alloys. Ceramic materials. Glass. Building materials. Manufacture of technical ceramics. Composite materials.Values featuring the materials. Stress and the selection of dimensions. Breakthroughs. Hardness. Macroscopic examination. Examination of the surface. Heat Treatment.

Assessment methods: The exercises are classified on the basis of tests after the succeeding groups of themes. Lecture classified after a written exam. Final rating: 50% of exercises, 50% of the exam.

Comment: At the request of the students it is possible to write the sub-half test after the realization of the half material during the lecture.
