Learning outcomes: The ability to evaluate natural resources with regard to their natural value. The ability to choose methods for the valorisation of natural resources depending on the type of environment. The ability to conduct the evaluation of a selected area for economic purposes. Understanding the principles of balancing development – socio-economic development planning in environmentally valuable areas.

Competences:

Prerequisites: the fudamentals of spatial economy; the environmental determinants of spatial development

Course content: Forest economy: the economical and extra-productive functions of the forests; forest documentation (forest surveys) – content, manner of formulating. Forest resources. Protection forests. Use guidelines. Forms of environmental protection. Principles for protecting, managing and use. Valorisation (also for the purpose of tourism). Planning documentation. Natura 2000 areas; delimitation; environmental evaluation procedures; possibilities for management. Areas of limited use: types, principles for delineation, laws/restrictions in use. Limiting the use of water areas and areas located near water. GZWP (Main Underground Water Reservoirs) areas. Spa locations and areas under curative protection – resources and their valorisation; limitations in spatial management; guidelines for spatial economy. Managing floodplains. Managing water in forest areas and protected areas. The spatial aspects of ground resources protection. Issues related to developing mountain area space and the phenomena occurring in environmentally valuable areas (refugia, ecotones, agricultural-forest border; erosive phenomena). Tree and shrub strips in an open landscape: typology, development of tree and shrub strips, developing rural landscape diversity. Developing and protecting landscape values (methods, techniques, economic consequences). Socio-economic development planning in environmentally valuable areas.
