Learning outcomes: Student gets theoretical knowledge and practical ability to analyse the sources and mechanisms of soil degradation. He knows the rules and methods of soil reclamation and rational use of reclaimed areas, with special focus on mining and post-industrial lands.

Competences: Student is able to assess a level of soil degradation and take decision on reclamation need. He has satisfactory knowledge to choose and design the best way of use for degraded land and to prepare the basis for a project of technical and biological reclamation treatments.

Prerequisites: Fundamentals of soil science, soil fertilization and crop production.

Course content: The forms of soil degradation. Water and wind erosion. Assessment of soil pollution. The choice of future land usage and reclamation measures. Special casus: reclamation of mine spoils, industrial waste dumps and open pits.
