Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1- has the widened knowledge in the range of animal breeding; W2 – has an advanced economic, legal and social knowledge related to animal breeding; W3 – has an advanced knowledge concerning agricultural environment formation by animal breeding ; W4 – has a deepened knowledge of animal functioning; W5 – demonstrates the knowledge of modern techniques used in animal breeding; W6 - has a widened knowledge of farm animals biodiversity protection. Skills: Student: U1 – has an ability of searching, understanding, analysis and creative application of needed information derived from breeding documentation; U2 – independently plans, performs, analyses and evaluates the correctness of performed task in the range of animal breeding; U3 – independently plans breeding systems of any animal species. Is able to perform detailed assessment of all elements determining animal breeding; U4 – has a deepened ability of modification of technologies used in animal breeding; U5 – is able to perform a detailed evaluation of animal breeding pointing possible threats and errors concerning the methods; U6 – demonstrates an ability of interference in particular stages of the breeding and elimination of threats using original solutions.

Competences: Student: K1 – understands the need of constant qualifications improving, is able to work in a team K2 – is able to manage the team taking the responsibility for its work results; K3 – can properly determine the priorities aimed at realization of the task determined by themselves or others; K4 – is aware of the need of specialized additional education and professional competences improvement in the range of animal breeding; K5 – knows the rules of creation and leading of breeding enterprise in agricultural sector or in agriculture surrounding;

Prerequisites: animal genetics, breeding methods, breeding planning and organization, cattle breeding

Course content: Cattle breeding organization in Poland. Evaluation of cattle performance value. Breeding value estimation. Elements of dairy cattle breeding programme. Animal expositions and auctions. Tasks of selectors in creation and realization of breeding programmes, including the programmes of bulls assessment and selection. The role of dairy cattle selector in breeding farm, cooperation with the breeder, selection, matching, counseling.

Recommended literature:

Assessment methods: Practicals completion: Kowledge (W1 - W6), skills (U1 -U6) and compenences (K1 - K5) will be verified based on 2 written tests (graded), and based on current progress and activity (oral statements and tasks). The presence on practicals is obligatory (only one unjustified absence is allowed during the whole semester). In case of unjustified absence, student is obliged to pass suitable part of material during consultations. Practicals are completed based on average grade from tests. Course completion: Students who have practicals completed are obliged to undertake written test during the exam session. Knowledge (W1, W2, W3, W4, W5, W6) will be verified based on the test lasting 45 minutes. When the test is not passed in the first term, student has the right to pass it again in the second term.
