Learning outcomes: Knowledge: student knows the nutrients included in feeds and their conversions (metabolism) in animal organisms; student knows the nutritive value of feeds and know as it should be defined properly, student has knowledge on the principles of animal nutrition, student knows the requirements of animals for feed and the methods of covering these needs by a correct balancing of feed rations; student knows methods of hay production and is able to evaluate the quality of this feed and their usefulness in animal. Skills: student is able to define nutritive value of feeds necessary in balancing of feed rations; student has the ability to use the animal feeding recommendations and is able to calculate and balance the feed rations as well as the concentrate mixtures for animals.

Competences: Student has consciousness of the effects of incorrect animal feeding on the animal health, productive effects and understands the necessity to improve knowledge for lifetime, student can correctly reconstruct the feed ration for animal in a situation of forced by the random factors; student understand the complexity of the interaction of different factors impacting the health and productivity of animals and can work in a team and make appropriate decisions.

Prerequisites: biochemistry, animal physiology.

Course content: Nutrients and their metabolism in monogastric animals and in ruminants. Intrinsic value of feedstuffs. Minerals and vitamins and their importance in animal nutrition. The nutritive value of forages, complete mixtures, commercial feeds and their use in constructing of different feeding models.
