Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student has knowledge of soil functions, soil diseases and tillage. Student describes conventional tillage and the role of tillage implements used in total tillage in crop rotation. Student associates and explains the effect of simplifications in tillage on soil environment. Student associates and determines the role of cover crops and mulches in soil protection. O1-W08, O1-W10 Skills: Student assesses and matches individual tillage practices for soil conditions as well as student uses proper tillage implements for determined tillage purposes. Student assesses the quality of workmanship of individual tillage measures and student is able to plan the total tillage for individual crops. O1 – U06, O1 – U08 Student plans tillage for sodded areas. O1 – U09

Competences: Student determines and recommends the tillage to protect soil environmental. O1-K01 Student organizes and conducts the research in team. O1-K05

Prerequisites: Agrotechnological principles of agriculture (soil science, agricultural engineering, agrometeorology)

Course content: The aims of tillage. Agricultural properties of soil. Soil structure. Spade test. Cultivating measures. Soil diseases. Preparation of seed bed. Getting rid of stones. Tillage without plough and direct sowing. Ecological and productive results of simplifications in tillage. Tillage for varying groups of vegetable. Antierosion tillage. Specificity of tillage under varying soil conditions. Planning of tillage for sodded areas and for vegetable crop rotations and orchards.
