Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Student: W1 – can identify and characterize animal tissues [KB2_W05]; W2 – can choose methods suitable for particular structures detection [KB2_W02_BT]; W3 – can propose tools the most suitable for resolving research problem [KB2_W03_BT]; W4 – can explain mechanisms used in cell and tissue labeling techniques and knows hazards from used reagents [KB2_W05_BT]. Skills: Student: U1 – can use light microscope and make observations of histological preparations [K_U06]; U2 – can analyze and evaluate tissue picture and connect it with their physiological state [K_U06]; U3 – can localize particular tissues within animal bodies [K_U06]; U4 – can choose and decide about the most suitable research methods needs for resolving particular research problem [K_U01; K_U05; K_U06; K_U12; K_U14; K_U15; K_U16; K_U17]; U5 – can prepare the background for making preparations stainings or for fixing the material destinated to electron microscopy and make observations [K_U01; K_U06; K_U12; K_U15]; U6 – can interpret obtained results and present them with usage of multimedia tools [K_U15; K_U17; K_U18].

Competences: Personal and social competences (attitudes and behaviors): Student: K1 – plans tasks and chooses methods for animal tissue isolation [KB2_K03]; K2 – shows ethical attitudes for experimental animals [KB2_K06]; K3 – understands the importance of the BHP rules compliance due to contact with animal-derived material and harmful factors in laboratory, shows responsibility for entrusted preparations and microscopes [KB2_K07].

Prerequisites: histology, cell biology

Course content: Isotopic labeling methods for nucleic acids, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates and other biological substances. Non-isotopic techniques for labeling biological macroparticles. In vitro and in vivo labeling. Markers of particular cellular organelles. Post-labeling signal detection techniques.

Assessment methods: Tutorial credit: checking the skills for making histological, cytochemical and immunohistochemical preparations, written examinations on grade, obligatory presence, one absence without excuse in case witch student must credit proper part of material, tutorial credit on the basis of grades’ average. Course credit: students with tutorial credit are obligated to write test (50 closed questions) in exam session, second approach is in writing or oral form.
