Learning outcomes: Knowledge Student knows the equipment and components of siphon systems, compressed air installations, vacuum and biogas installations; understands the principles of the design of vacuum pipelines, compressed air and gas mixtures pipelines; knows the methods of verification of technological efficiency of compressed air installations used for wastewater in aerobic tanks aeration; defines differences between the rules of calculation pipelines with gas flow from the rules of calculation pipelines for the transport of liquids. Skills Student is able to select vacuum pumps, blowers or compressors for technological needs in water and sewage facilities; is able to determine the hydraulic losses on the vacuum, compressed air and gas lines; is able to prepare guidelines for the selection of pneumatic actuators in automatic control systems of water supply as well as in sewage systems; knows how to check the technical condition of aeration system in activated sludge chambers. Can design injector system and mammoth pump.

Competences: Student understands the importance of technological progress in reducing the operating costs of technical equipment.

Prerequisites: Fluid mechanics, water supply and sewerage systems, water and wastewater technology

Course content: The use of siphons in groundwater intake. Construction, selection and use of vacuum pumps in environmental engineering. Selection of jet pumps and mammoth pumps. Vacuum sewer design. Design solution for vacuum-discharge station. Pressure wastewater aeration systems. Construction, selection and use of blowers and compressors in environmental engineering. Hydraulic calculations of vacuum and compressed-air pipelines. Biogas plants. Hydraulic calculations for gas mixtures. Designing of installations for filters rinsing with water or air. Rules for selection of safety valves. Fundamentals of pneumatic automation systems.
