Learning outcomes: Knowledge: On successful completion of the course, students will: gain deeper understanding of theoretical and practical knowledge of crop plant taxonomy, plant development stages, and agricultural technology of crop species grown in environmental conditions of Poland; demonstrate the ability to: explain the terms related to crop production; describe stages of plant growth; apply agricultural methods and techniques to specific crop production that are in line with environmental conditions and everyday settings. Skills: Students will be able to: select crop species to be grown in diversified agro-ecological and economic conditions; distinguish crop plants at their different stages of growth; schedule crop production operations and estimate production inputs; select the types of production inputs suitable for certain crop species and their food requirements, and pest management; define the agricultural operations which affect economic balance determined by crop growing methods and applied means of crop production.

Competences: Students will be aware of: the need for continuous education; the impact of agricultural practices and habitat factors on yield quantity and quality; the necessity to observe occupational safety and health principles when using chemicals and other means of production; the responsibility to be taken for people involved in agro-technical operations and for the equipment and machinery.

Prerequisites: Botany, soil science, agricultural chemistry, agricultural plant science.

Course content: Crop plant taxonomy and development, agro-ecological conditions, including their requirement characteristics, physiological basis of plant productivity, agricultural practices in crop production, including cultivars, forecrops, soil tillage, fertilization, the seed (planting, sowing), weed and pest control, crop harvesting and storing.
