Learning outcomes: Knwledge: Student - W1 – has detailed knowledge in the range of cattle breeding and husbandry W2 – has detailed knowledge in the range of technology of milk and beef production W3 – knows the aims and methods of realization of local cattle breeds protection in Poland Skills: Student - U1 – has an ability of searching, understanding, analysis and application of needed information from breeding documentation U2 – makes use of ability of analysis of factors conditioning breeding and utilization of local cattle breeds with an application of critical elements U3 – is able to perform an assessment of breeding environment conditions and health status and to conduct essential maintenance practices in cattle

Competences: Student - K1 – is aware of the responsibility for the results of improperly led cattle breeding K2 – is aware of a need of an additional training and self-improvement in a range of cattle breeding and husbandry

Prerequisites: Basis of animal breeding, Cattle breeding and husbandry (semester 5).

Course content: Cattle breeding, breeding programs of local cattle breeds, bulls selection indices, information technologies in cattle breeding, system of cattle herd management, breeding documentation, systems of bovine milk and livestock production, cattle welfare and behavior, inventory premises, cattle maintenance and governing, condition, health status and metabolic disorders in cows.

Assessment methods: Practicals completion: Practicals completion based on an average score obtained during oral statements (verification W1, W2, W3, K1, K2); two written tests containing 5 problem questions (verification W1, W2, W3, U1, U2); practicals in the cowshed (verification U3, K1) and preparation of the project in the range of cattle breeding and husbandry (within 2 weeks) and its presentation using multimedia software (about. 15 minutes) (verification W2, U2). Presence on the practicals is obligatory. In case of justified absence, the student is obliged to complete the suitable part of material (oral statement on 2 problem questions). Scores range and % of proper answers: 3 – 60%, 3+ – 70%, 4 – 80%, 4+ – 90%, 5 – 100%. Course completion: The basis for course completion is practicals completion and written test (30 questions). The test lasts 45 minutes. When the test is not completed in the first term, the student has the right to pass it again in the same form in additional term. Minimum scope of knowledge required for completion is 60%. Knowledge (W1, W2, W3) will be verified during the exam.
