Learning outcomes: Knowledge: Understands the essence of religion, its sources, types and functions. Characterizes basic doctrinal assumptions major religions of the world. Knows how to describe the doctrinal differences selected religions and their influence on the relations between followers and International Security. Skills: Is able to apply knowledge of doctrinal principles to explain the essence of sectarian antagonisms. Can apply their knowledge to explain the function of religion in social life and its evolutionary sources. Can use the knowledge of religious doctrines to shape proper relationship with their followers.

Competences: Social competence: Keep the distance to the extreme attitudes of believers of various religions. Is aware of the importance and nature of the impact of evolutionary theory on social sciences and humanities in the teaching of religion. Implement measures to avert sectarian antagonisms.

Prerequisites: Humanities in the high school

Course content: Religious studies. The concept of religion. Classification religion. The structure of religion. The functions of religion. The importance of religion in social life. Naturalistic learning about religion. Polytheism. Monotheism. Secularism, the Founding Fathers and the religion of America. Agnosticism. NOMA. The Great Prayer Experiment. Evidence on the existence of God. Roots of religion. The morality of a religion: why people are good? World religions and security. Religious Terrorism. Revision

Assessment methods: Passing classes: 2 interterm written tests to assess ongoing evaluation (on the basis of oral statements) progress in learning and activity. Attendance in classes is compulsory; a student can have only one unjustified absence. In the case of excused absence student is required to pass the appropriate part of the material. Passing classes based on grade point average. Completion of the course: students who pass classes are oblige to write a test (multiply choice questions). The test lasts 30 minutes. Rating of the course – 25 % - written test on classes, 25 % - evaluation of the activity, 50 % - evaluation of the test.

Comment: for: Students of 2nd degree in Landscape Architecture (part-time studies, spec.: Chinese and Polish tradition in shaping of the landscape)
