Learning outcomes: Knowledge: • the student has an extended knowledge in the field of waste management and renewable energy, quality and business activity in the individual entrepreneurship Skills: • the student has the ability to find, understand, analyze and creative use of information from literature, databases, and other sources; is able to integrate the information obtained, to make their interpretation, as well as draw conclusions and formulate and justify opinions • the student is able to identify and determine the specificity of engineering tasks and develop documentation on the task of engineering and prepare the text that discusses the results of this task • the student is able to assess technical solutions and to analyze the factors affecting the quality of life and human health and animals and the environment also determine the life cycle of technical systems

Competences: -

Prerequisites: Basic knowlegde in physics and mathematics, sources of emissions and environmental protection

Course content: The theme of the classes is the assessment of the life cycle of systems. Basics of integrated waste management. Phases of LCA: goal and scope, inventory analysis, impact assessment, interpretation. Functional unit. Demands of ISO 14040 and ILCD. Execution of an LCA with the software IWM2, LCA-IWM and GaBi. System comparison: electrictricity from hard coal vs. electricity from photovoltaics. System comparison: municipal waste management systems: recycling, MBP or incineration.

Assessment methods: Assessment of learning outcomes in terms of knowledge: passing a written exam. Assessment of learning outcomes in terms of skills: analysis of results and interpretation of data collected. Complete all tasks in the implementation of tutorials. Assessment of learning outcomes in terms of social competence: individual work, group work, the responsibility for the tasks performed, diligence in preparing for the implementation of tasks.
