Learning outcomes: Student possesses theoretical knowledge and practical ability to recognize and analyze the sources and mechanisms of soil degradation, as well as to assess degradation level. He knows the methods of prevention against soil degradation and is able to assess their efficiency.

Competences: Student is able to assess the state of soil degradation and decide on reclamation need. He has satisfactory knowledge to choose and design the best measures to protect soils against various forms of degradation.

Prerequisites: Fundamentals of soil science, environmental chemistry, natural resources and their usage.

Course content: The sources and mechanisms of soil degradation. Strategy for soil protection. Water and wind erosion. Technical, chemical and hydrological soil degradation. Assessment of soil pollution. Soil degradation and protection in crucial industrial regions. International and national strategy of soil protection. Soil protection in the law.
